Conference Format

The meeting will be held from Monday November 10^th through Friday November 14^th, 2008. Organized sessions will be held in the morning and afternoon on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and in the morning on Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday and Friday afternoon will be open. All organized sessions and functions will be held at the Doubletree Resort.

Organized sessions will consist of invited oral presentations of 20 to 30 minutes duration including discussion. There will be no parallel sessions. There will be one afternoon poster session. An overhead projector for transparency-based presentations and a projector for laptop presentations will be available; other visual aides will require special arrangements. Note that since the workshop is kept purposefully small and concentrated, the number of presentations will be limited.

Those who wish to speak, or to nominate others, should communicate a brief (two-line) statement of the topic by September 1^st, 2008.

Social Events

A reception with hors d'oeuvres and a no-host bar will be held in the evening of Monday, November 10^th at the Doubletree Resort. On Thursday, November 13^th evening there will be a cocktail party and banquet. As in previous years, if we are very, very lucky there will be good food and no after-dinner speaker.

Coffee will be served during morning breaks; cold drinks will be served at the afternoon break. To coax late sleepers, a light buffet, including coffee will be served outside the meeting room before each morning session. All functions, including breaks, are open to spouses, or other guests, for a flat additional fee.

Accommodations

The meeting hotel is the well located, and recently renovated, Doubletree Resort. The attractive location features the beach on one side and the mountains on the other. Santa Barbara is a small city with much charm and many excellent restaurants. A block of rooms has been set aside for workshop participants at the exceptional rate of $195, single or double occupancy, guaranteed until October 20^th, 2008. Since the normal room rate is much more than this, do not delay reserving a room.
