Purpose
The purpose
of the meeting is to bring together a relatively small, international
group of the leading researchers in x-ray radiative transfer,
line shapes, dense plasma spectroscopy, atomic kinetics and
plasma processes, to identify current problems in these fields
and directions for future research. The framework will be a
series of oral sessions in which a large fraction of the participants
will make presentations. Additional unstructured time will be
included to discuss and plan future efforts.
Further,
to ensure that the diverse areas contained within the study
of the radiative properties of hot dense matter are addressed,
we encourage reports from other related workshops. In the past we have
had reports on, e.g., the NLTE Code Comparison and Opacity Workshops,
as well as reports from meetings on Advances in Atomic Databases. This year
we hope to hear reports on the 5th NLTE Kinetics Code Comparison
Workshop, and developments of efforts in warm dense matter research.

Topics
Previous
meetings have covered dense plasma absorption and emission spectroscopy,
radiation heating, opacities, spectral line shapes, dense plasma
effects and the breakdown of the isolated atom picture, non-equilibrium
atomic kinetics and radiation transfer, and detailed X-ray spectra
simulation. Experiments using high-intensity short-pulse lasers
and z-pinch type discharges to generate and diagnose hot dense
matter bring new perspectives to these topics.
Suggestions
for additional topics related to the theme of the meeting, but
not specifically covered by these categories are enthusiastically
solicited by the organizers and will be considered for inclusion
in the program depending on overall response and time constraints.
Such suggestions should be conveyed to the organizers as early
as possible.
A special session on plasma spectroscopy to celebrate Hans Griem's 80th
birthday will be held. Please see the Agenda for
a detail of this special session.
