Astronomy & Physics Education

Researchers:
Overview

The UNR physics department is committed to providing our students a first-rate education. By staying current with new classroom technologies, such as the "Personal Response Systems" we've kept our courses up-to-date and engaging. To meet a growing interest in astrophysics expressed by many of our students we are currently adding an astrophysics minor to our program with an astronomy minor to soon follow. With these additions to our department we've developed an astrophysics measurements course where students will have the opportunity to use the department's telescopes, spectrometer, and CCD camera to take quality data that students will be encouraged to present to the astronomical community through poster papers at national meetings. We are also developing a "hot topics" course that will allow us to keep our students current on new research and technology in astrophysics. Finally, our department understands the importance of K-12 education so we devote a portion of our education efforts in outreach to our community through "Physics road shows" as well as presentations to classes visiting our department.
